Having a friend, relative, or loved in who might be in the Fresno County Jail, creates a lot of unanswered questions. Can this person be contacted? Can they receive money? Can they have visitors? This can be quite a confusing and overwhelming time. To take the confusion out of this process here is some useful information.

Visitors to inmates in the Fresno Jail must signup prior to 9:15 p.m. Visiting hours are held each day from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. and again from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Each inmate is allowed to have two 30 minute visits per week from Saturday through Friday. Up to three names can be placed on each inmates visiting list, and the list can be changed anytime the inmate chooses. Visitors to the jail must be 18 years of age or older and have a valid form of identification. Children of inmates are also allowed to visit and do not need to be on the inmate’s visiting list; however they must be accompanied by an adult who is on the inmate’s visiting list.

Mail to all inmates must be addressed to the name under which the inmate was booked. The address to send mail is P.O. Box 872 Fresno, California 93712. In order for the mail to make it to the correct inmate, it may also be helpful to address the mail with the inmate’s date of birth and booking number, if known. Inmates can send and receive unlimited amounts of mail. All mail will be inspected prior to delivery to the inmate. If the mail contains anything that is not allowed, it will be returned to the sender. Items not allowed include stamps, stickers, any sexually explicit material or photographs, Polaroid photographs (other types of photos are allowed) or any other illegal item or items that could present a security risk.

Chaplains are present at the Fresno Jail and available for inmate’s needs. However, it is important to note that jail chaplains cannot give out any information regarding inmates at the jail. To receive inmate information please call 888-373-7011. This information line provides information on whether or not someone is in custody, current charges, bail amounts and release dates. If an inmate becomes transferred to another facility, this information line will not provide that information.

The maximum capacity of the Fresno County Jail is 3,778. The jail offers all inmates necessary medical, dental and mental health services as required by law. Medical professionals are on hand at the jail 24 hours per day to provide these services to inmates. Inmates are also initially provided with necessities such as a toothbrush and toothpaste, a comb and soap, paper and pencil, a razor, a plastic cup and 2 stamped envelopes. Each inmate is allowed to purchase up to $85 worth of goods from the commissary per week. Money can be deposited in the inmates account via U.S. Postal Service with a money order. For those inmates who cannot afford items at the commissary an indigent package, which contains the aforementioned items, is provided weekly to them.
