Stockton Jail Overcrowding

Incarcerated individuals in the County Jail in Stockton currently experience incredible overcrowding. Some believe that the increase of police presence on the streets may lead to an increase of incarcerated individuals in a jail system that may not be able to handle it. Some offenders for minor offenses, such as misdemeanors, are already released because there is no room to hold the accused. Preventing Crime has Become Important There has been some effort in the county to reduce crime in the area through means that don't include arrest and incarceration, but these methods to stop crime before it happens don't help people who have already been inducted into the system and are suffering from a revolving door of arrests, incarceration, and release that never seems to end.

California Jail Overcrowding

Many California county jails are packed to the gills with inmates, as the state itself is in scramble mode to dramatically reduce head-counts on a collective scale. As it stands, the California jail system is mired in bureaucracy and financial woes while state legislators appear to be jargoning back and forth regarding quick-fix and long-term solutions. In 2011 the US Supreme Court ordered subordinate officials to whittle prison populations down to a manageable number, which in turn landed a number of low-level offenders in county jails across the state. The transported felons in question were first identified and then labeled as low-risk time-servers, meaning that the likelihood of recidivism would be purportedly marginal. Either way, this situation is merely a drop in the bucket when compared to the other issues in need of resolving.

The Sacramento County Main Jail is used primarily for the temporary incarceration and detention of individuals for the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department as well as other outside agencies such as the ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement). The jail houses male and female inmates until such time as they either post bail, appear for arraignment or are released on their own recognizance. The jail also houses inmates awaiting trial. If convicted, most prisoners will serve their time in the Rio Consumnes Correctional Facility. The facility can accommodate approximately 2,400 inmates.

When a loved one serves time in jail they are allowed communication with family and friends on the outside. Even though they are incarcerated, there are some privileges that inmates today have access to, such as the ability to check e-mail messages. There are certain rules and things to remember when sending an e-mail to your family member; the most important to keep in mind is that you cannot expect the message will be private by any means. For security, safety, and breach of security purposes, all incoming messages will be monitored by certain jail staff and employees. E-mail is a great option to stay in touch in real-time with your family and goes much more convenient than snail mail by the post office that could take several days.
